As a firefighter in Nashville for 14 years, I have seen tragedy after tragedy destroy lives. A couple of years ago on Christmas day a homeowner lost everything except the clothes she was wearing when she ran out from the flames. No purse, no cell phone, not even a picture, and hundreds of memories lost. I happened to see the owner a couple of months later and learned just how bad off she was. With tears in her eyes, she explained how hard it was dealing with the insurance company and processing her claims. The fire was devastating. Navigating the complicated insurance process was frustrating. Proof of ownership and remembering everything she own was nearly impossible. The insurance company disputed many of her claims over one simple fact- the home owner couldn’t prove anything!

According to the Insurance Information Institute, in 2017, there was $23 billion of property loss from fires. There were 2.2 million burglaries.That’s 1 every 15 seconds, which lead to an average of a typical homeowner to lose nearly $2,000 in stolen goods. There were $78 billion of property loss from natural disasters.

When disasters strike the last thing that you need in your life is added stress.
